WESTERN SPRINTS “OFF” UNTIL MADERA JULY 7; AADC CHAMP SWANSON WIRE-TO-WIRE IN ALTAMONT 50-LAPPER TO BECOME YOUNGEST USAC SPRINT WINNER EVER!

Ryan Kaplan is atop the Lucas Oil Western Sprint Car Series standings as the series is idle until July 7 when it returns to action at the Madera (Calif.) Speedway. Kaplan finished third in Saturday’s 50-lapper at Tracy, Calif. and has an 11-point lead over JoJo Helberg, who was sixth at Tracy.

Tanner Swanson of Kingsburg, Calif. earned his first series triumph in the “Open Wheel Madness” event at Tracy’s Altamont Motorsports Park, leading wire-to-wire. Three-time defending series champion Tony Hunt finished second, ahead of Kaplan, fast qualifier Nick Rescino Jr. and Greg Anderson.

Swanson thus becomes the youngest USAC Sprint Car feature winner in history at 16 years and five months, breaking the previous record held by Bryan Clauson at 16 years and 10 months. Swanson could be the one to beat when the series travels to the 1/3-mile Madera oval. His brother Kody won both USAC Western Sprint features there last year!

Equally impressive was the fact that Swanson’s victory came in only his second Sprint car start ever! He was fifth in the May 26 race at Roseville, Calif. Swanson won this year’s “All-American Driver Challenge” championship.

SWANSON, MITCHELL & DYER STAR AT ALTAMONT
Tracy, CA

Tanner Swanson, Matt Mitchell and Tom Dyer scored USAC feature victories in Saturday’s “triple header” at Altamont Motorsports Park. Swanson, of Kingsburg, Calif., led all 50 laps of the Lucas Oil Western Sprint Car race to beat Tony Hunt, Ryan Kaplan, Nick Rescino Jr. and Greg Anderson. Mitchell, of Yorba Linda, Calif., led the final nine laps of the 30-lap Western Midget feature to beat Dallas Melby, Paul Zimmerly, Scott Pierovich and Justin Melton.

Series point leader Johnny Rodriguez led the first 22 laps of the race but finished 10th. Dyer, of Corte Madera, Calif., led all but four laps to win the 30-lap California Pavement Ford Focus race over Tim Skoglund, Beau DeBard, Nic Faas and Daniel Adler. Skoglund led the other four laps and continues to lead the series standings.

His first start in the sprint car was at the All American Speedway in Roseville near Sacramento three weeks ago where he finished a very respectable 5th on the high banked 1/4 mile track. He had to come from the back of the field after a lap one mishap to accomplish this.

Tanner drives the family owned and maintained #17 David Reich (rich) Construction/Eagle Chassis Sprinter that his brother Kody drove to a USAC Western Championship two years ago.

Tanner is dividing his time running the USAC Western States Sprint Circuit here on the West Coast and his fully paid Ford Focus Midget ride he won by winning the "All American Driver Challenge" earlier this year. He flies back to Hickory, NC on weekends when he has testing or racing in the AADC/Calico Coatings Ford Focus Midget and races the ISAC Sprint Car whenever the schedule allows it.

All American Driver Challenge Finds Its Newest Young Gun in 16-Year-Old Tanner Swanson
March 5th, 2007 - Ford Focus Midgets-Carolina/Virginia

DENVER, NC – After nearly 14 hours of intense testing this past weekend at historic Hickory Motor Speedway, the All-American Driver Challenge (AADC) found its new champion, 16-year-old Tanner Swanson of Kingsburg, Calif.

“Wow! All I could think was, ‘Did they say my name or someone else’s?’” said Swanson. “It’s incredible to win something like this.”

Swanson, along with nine other finalists, competed for the big prize: a fully-paid contract to drive in the Calico Coatings USAC Ford Focus Midget for the 2007 season. The judges painstakingly deliberated for more than two hours to decide who would be the 2007 AADC champion.
